Using Metaphor in Product Illustration

A thesaurus (or more realistically, the built in mac dictionary) is an illustrators most frequently used tools, right next to pencil, stylus, and probably coffee. At the risk of massively over generalizing how every illustrator works based on a sample size of one: it's how we kick start the process of finding the right angle to approach the illustration.

Basecamp 3 just got a whole lot... simpler

The most recent release is the biggest yet but it doesn't include a bunch of new features. Instead, it's a huge step forward in clarity and simplicity. While it's nearly a complete redesign, it wasn't planned that way. We never decided to do a "Major Redesign", we simply started with a hunch that Basecamp could be much simpler.

We're working on a series of "How To" videos here at Basecamp. I was prototyping the first video of the series when I ran into a familiar design problem. The video was twice as long as it should be and the whole thing felt disorganized.
