  • Architecture (M.ARCH)

    • 90-credit, three-year NAAB-accredited program.
    • Gain design-build experience and study architecture’s formal and sociopolitical dimensions from a critical perspective.
    • Design for sites of critical importance to New York City’s evolution, exploring new representational techniques and sustainable systems.
    • 4-year dual-degree option with MFA Lighting Design available.
    • STEM-designated program.

    Communication Design (MPS)

    • 30-credit, one-year program, focuses on digital product design.
    • Explore innovative composition and visualization methods, interaction design, typography, and industry best practices to relay information and ideas.
    • Gain experience in coding, concepting, and UX and interaction analyses.
    • STEM-designated program. 

    Data Visualization (MS)

    • 30-credit program, integrates theory and studio practice.
    • Develop skills in visual design, computer science and coding, statistical analysis, and the ethics behind data analysis and representation.
    • Present data in a way that can shape opinion, policy, and decision-making in today’s increasingly global society.
    • STEM-designated program. 

    Design and Technology (MFA)

    • 60-credit, full-residency, studio-based curriculum.
    • Areas of practice include interaction design, physical computing, prototyping, game design, new media art, digital fabrication, data visualization, and critical design.
    • Courses, internships, and collaborations explore how media and technology drive and are driven by social and cultural change.
    • STEM-designated program. 

    Design and Urban Ecologies (MS)

    • 60-credit, studio-driven program.
    • Combine research, fieldwork, and participatory action to understand the complex forces behind urban growth and development.
    • Develop and implement innovative strategic projects that bring about real, transformative urban change.

    Fashion Design and Society (MFA)

    • 60-credit, first-of-its-kind program, combines intensive studio-based projects with research.
    • Train to become an innovative, world-class fashion designer with an understanding of the global business, intellectual, and ecological contexts of your work.
    • Present your collection to industry insiders at the end of your second year, and on the runway at NYFW in September.

    Fashion Management (Online MPS)

    • 30-credit, one-year program for working professionals.
    • Study 100% online, allowing you to conveniently access and complete coursework from anywhere in the world.
    • Learn to challenge existing paradigms in the fashion world in order to create breakthrough ideas in fashion businesses, start-ups, and fashion-related services.
    • Advance your career in fashion and brand management, including fashion styling, marketing, production, editorial, and merchandising.

    Fashion Management (MPS)

    • 30-credit, one-year program for working professionals.
    • Each on-campus course meets on Friday evenings and incorporates two intensive weekends, in the first and final weeks. 
    • Learn to challenge existing paradigms in the fashion world in order to create breakthrough ideas in fashion businesses, start-ups, and fashion-related services.
    • Advance your career in fashion and brand management, including fashion styling, marketing, production, editorial, and merchandising.

    Fashion Studies (MA)

    • 42-credit, research-based program.
    • Develop a critical and historical understanding of fashion and its complex intersections with identities and cultures.
    • Investigate fashion as dress, image, and bodily practice, and as a major industry connected to personal and social identity and to world culture.

    Fine Arts (MFA)

    • 60-credit, two-year program.
    • Combine studio, theory, and professional practices in diverse media, including sculpture, painting, drawing, photography, installation, and video.
    • Work independently in your own studio and participate in weekly critiques with an internationally-acclaimed faculty of art professionals.

     

    History of Design and Curatorial Studies (MA)

    • 42-credit program, offered jointly with Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Museum.
    • Take an object-focused, practice-based approach to the study of European and American decorative arts and design.
    • Gain practical and theoretical instruction in researching and displaying interiors and design objects, with hands-on museum and curatorial experiences.

    Industrial Design (MFA)

    • 60-credit program, combines advanced making skills with critical enquiry.
    • Explore the way goods can be produced in both localized and globalized contexts.
    • Investigate ways to reconcile competing interests such as economical production and sustainability, consumerism, social and environmental improvement, and global and local production.

    Interior Design (MFA)

    • 60-credit, studio-based program at the school where formal interior design education began.
    • Work with distinguished, practicing professionals to imagine new possibilities for the design of habitable space.
    • Integrate sustainable design strategies with new developments in technology and materials.
    • Double major with MFA Lighting Design available (STEM-designated).

    Lighting Design (MFA)

    • 60-credit, two-year program incorporating studio work and research.
    • Study an interdisciplinary curriculum focused on human experience, sustainability, and the social impact of lighting design.
    • Work in an integrated studio environment alongside peers in architecture, interior design, and product design.
    • 4-year dual-degree option with M.Arch, or double major with MFA Interior Design available.
    • STEM-designated program. 

    Photography (MFA)

    • Flexible 60-credit program, enables students to undertake local internships, apprenticeships, and international projects.
    • Become a practicing artist and scholar who redefines the creative role of photography within contemporary culture.
    • Work in state-of-the-art shooting studios, darkrooms, and digital labs on campus.

    Strategic Design and Management (MS)

    • 36-credit program, can be completed on-campus or online.
    • Learn to blend design thinking and sustainability and service design frameworks to initiate and lead change in emerging fields.
    • Focus on the evolving global economy, studying real-world perspectives on strategy, sustainability, management, leadership, entrepreneurship, and design innovation and research.
    • STEM-designated program.

    Textiles (MFA)

    • 60-credit, two-year program incorporating studio work and research.
    • Develop a critical understanding of the sociocultural, environmental, and emotional dimensions of textiles and fabrics, and explore the potential to unite craft with innovative high-tech and bio-tech production.
    • Prepare for the creative and professional opportunities related to textiles in product and interior design, fashion design, textiles research, fine arts, architecture, and hybrid fields.

    Transdisciplinary Design (MFA)

    • 60-credit program, focused around project-based work in four research pathways: systems, sustainability, social, and urban.
    • Develop nontraditional solutions and methods to address pressing social issues and the complex challenges of a global culture.
    • Consider issues from multiple perspectives, learn from industry leaders, and prepare for both traditional and emerging design career paths.
    • STEM-designated program.
